Volunteer organiser Coral Musgrave tells us all about Bearwood Trade School.
Bearwood Community Hub launched the first Trade School in Bearwood on Sunday 26 January 2020. This is, we hope, the first of many Trade School sessions to be offered locally.
Trade school is based on a barter system, so while these classes are free, people coming to the session will be asked to bring something the teacher has asked for in exchange for sharing their skill. This could be seeds, a recipe, a poem or an offer to share a skill at Trade School.
Bobbie shared her skill, making Kusudama Paper Flowers at Why Not Coffee. Eight people, including young children, came along to learn together in a relaxed and friendly environment. In return for offering the class, Bobbie asked for people to tell the group what their favourite flower was and why, offer to run a Trade School, to share information about #36,000Humans and Sunflower Action, projects supported by Bearwood Action for Refugees.
Next Sunday you could come along to a class on How to Declutter; in February you can learn how to help your children with their spelling; and in March there is a sold out crochet class.
Two people who came to the flower making class have already offered to share their skills, yoga and first aid. Keep an eye out for when tickets are available as classes fill up fast.
UPCOMING CLASSES:
In the pipeline are classes on African drumming, making messenger bags from plastic bags, how to get into the music business, Spanish and French for your holiday, public speaking, and maybe chicken keeping.
Have you got a skill you would like to share? If so please get in touch with us. Also please get in touch if there is a skill you would love to learn, and we will see if we can find someone to offer a Trade School in that.
We want to offer what you want to learn, where you want to learn and when you want to learn. Classes will be offered at different times and days so that everyone will have a chance to come along to a Trade School to meet new people and learn something new. Trade School will be at various locations, all in Bearwood, including cafes, St Mary’s Church and Thimblemill Library.
