Every Wednesday Bearwood Community Bakery is filled with the welcoming smell of freshly baked bread and the laughter of friendship. Our bakers are tutored by Alberto and their children are cared for by social entrepreneur Naomi St Juste in her Popup Creche and all this is paid for by the proceeds made from their bread!

Progress so far:
During the summer we set up, practiced, and sold our first loaves. Over three weeks, 10 participants learnt the ropes while their children played at our bespoke bakery summer playscheme funded by the Holidays and Activities Fund.
We have some spaces left for participation in the bakery so get in touch if you wish to refer someone who has recently migrated here and is passionate about good bread, good health and community!
While we experiment throughout the summer, we’ll be working out how to keep the project sustainable in the long run. The idea is a participant-led social enterprise that offers opportunities for those in our community currently not able to work due to immigration status or other reasons.
