About:

Bearwood Community Hub CIC has proudly been supporting We Are Bearwood, also supported by Creative Black Country for the production of the #BearwoodTapestry a community co-created embroidered tapestry. We Are Bearwood hosted a session with Maria Wigley (textiles artist)  where 11 Bearwoodians were involved in the designing of the tapestry, with the final theme being ‘Nature’. 200 volunteers received a kit designed and created by Maria Wigley, which contained everything they needed, including printed instructions for embroidery stitches, reference images, template, fabric, thread and needle. Maria will combine each panel to form a wall hanging which will be displayed in the Bearwood Community Hub located at St Mary’s Church Bearwood. In a coordinated approach to support the #BearwoodTapestry we ran 4 online Sew & Chats, 1 socially distanced in real life Sew & Chat facilitated by Renata (Community Engagement Lead for the Hub). Sarah-Ann of We Are Bearwood has also been very busy in creating a stunning and very special digital legacy of the project! To view the legacy in full visit the We Are Bearwood website HERE.

To add your personal Bearwood Tapestry story to the digital legacy e-mail Sarah-Ann on  wearebearwood@gmail.com and she'll happily meet you in-real-life or on zoom for a chat and remember to add  #BearwoodTapestry to your social media posts.

In mid-July we will be running a socially distanced #BearwoodTapestry reveal with tea, cake and coffee at the Bearwood Community High Street Garden!

So many people are enjoying creating the first tapestry that We Are Bearwood together with Bearwood Community Hub have decided to make a second tapestry.

We invite you to draw and stitch your own picture of:

  • A flower no bigger than 4 inches across or

  • A bird no bigger than 5 inches tall

  • Each flower or bird should be in different shades of the one colour with a little black, white green or yellow

    Leaves and Insects are welcome.

  • Embellishments with beads or sequins etc are welcome

  • Material size 9 inches.

We would like your embroidery to inspire conversation, laughter and story sharing from Bearwood’s wonderful diverse community so create from the heart, wherever in the world that may be.

Fabric and some threads are available from Bear Bookshop however once they are gone, they are gone!

Threads can be bought from the Bearwood Indoor Market.

In July We Are Bearwood will stitch the panels together to form a rainbow of flowers, leaves, birds and tiny bugs.
